Alan Aldridge – The Man with Kaleidoscope Eyes
This illustrated biography charts Aldridges life as a graphic entertainer, with paintings and drawings covering his whole career from 1964 right up to the present. Interspersed in some 250 colour illustrations are stories and anecdotes about those who Aldridge encountered along the way, among them Picasso, the Queen and Salvador Dalí.
Alan Aldridge symbolizes the spirit of the 60s and 70s. His psychedelic images are a perfect example of the feeling and art of that era. As The Beatles lead the charts, it was Aldridge’s designs and visual identity that defined The Beatles image and music. Still busy creating today, Aldridge is an artist, an illustrator, a graphic designer, art director and film maker.
He masterminded the seminal art book The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics.

As Art Director at Penguin, Aldridge produced ground-breaking covers.
He also had commissions for The Rolling Stones, Elton John and illustrations for the award-winning children’s book The Butterfly Ball and The Grasshoppers Feast, the first complete retrospective of Aldridge’s work in the UK.

Aldridge’s career to date, from the early 60s when his whirling designs refreshed the somber tone of Penguin book covers, to his collaborations with The Beatles and their Apple record company, through to serving as creative director to the original Hard Rock Cafe is being exhibited at the design museum now. Commissions from Andy Warhol, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Elton John and The House of Blues will also be on display alongside photographs, sketch books and illustrations from his seminal children’s books. Visit soon as it won’t be on display forever.

Over the past couple of years, whilst becoming interested in mountain biking, me and the guys also developed an interest for sports photography. As some rode, photography came a form of documentation and a way of advertising the team. It worked out well that some found a hidden talent in photography and there fore invested in pricey equipment. Here is some of their work which can also be found on http://www.pinkbike.com/ , which is a biking photography blog.

Victor Lucas is a freelance photographer and journalist, specializing in mountain biking and adventure sports, for magazines and commercial clients worldwide.
‘Although I’m based in Ireland, I travel so often that my real home is my rucksack. My summers are really hectic, chasing around the globe to capture the highs and lows of mountain biking’s premier racing and freeride events. Winter is a little more relaxed and I try to get away to interesting locations that have opportunities for inspiring photos and stories. It’s also a good time to ride my bike and avoid the cold, dark and damp Irish winter!’
‘My background is in visual design, but I got frustrated with the daily routine behind a desk and decided to change it for the chance to explore the great outdoors and capture images of inspiring subjects. The things that get me excited are passionate people, amazing places and the adrenalin pumping action of sports like mountain biking, bmx, skiing and snowboarding.’
